How To

How to drive a nails in wood

The first step in driving a nail into wood is to choose the correct size and type of hammer. The most popular types of hammers include claw hammers as well as mallets and ball peenhammers. Each type of hammer comes with its advantages and disadvantages. For example, a claw hammer works best when you want to hit something hard, like nails; however, it's difficult to control precisely where the blow lands. Although a sledgehammer can be used to hit large areas quickly, it is too heavy to be useful for small tasks.

After choosing the right hammer, place your hand flat against the side of the head so that the handle rests comfortably in your palm. Grip the handle firmly, but don't squeeze it so tightly that you hurt yourself. Hold the hammer straight up, keeping your wrist relaxed. Then swing the hammer back toward the ground, aiming for the center of the nail. You should feel the impact from the hammer striking a nail. Practice swinging your hammer on a block of wooden until you feel comfortable.

You can now drive the nail by holding the hammer to your body. Position the nail, so it's perpendicular to the surface of the wood. Keep your focus on the tip of each nail. Move the hammer forward and then continue to move the hammerhead. This can be repeated several times to increase the speed of your swing. After mastering the technique, you can add power to your swings. Hold the hammer high above your shoulders and pull it down. You will be able to use more energy and put your best foot forward.

Once you've made the first nail hole, take out the hammer. To remove the remainder of the nails, you can use a screwdriver/pry bar. You should ensure that the nails are flush with the board's surface to avoid splitting the wood.
