How To

How to make wood joints

This tutorial will demonstrate how to join two pieces together of wood. The "pocket hole joint" is a method whereby we drill holes into the wood and glue them together. If your wood is straight and flat, this method will work well. If your wood isn't straight or flat, you might want to try another method, such as dowel joinery. Here are the steps

  1. Drill Pocket Hole Joints. To start, measure and mark where you want to put the pocket hole joint. You will then drill 3/4" deep holes through each piece of wood with a jigsaw, handheld drilling machine, or hand-held drill.
  2. Sand Smooth. Sanding the wood's edges will help ensure that the joint won't split later.
  3. Glue both sides together. Apply glue to both ends of the wood. Allow it to cool for at least 5 minutes before you attach the pieces.
  4. Secure the pieces together. After the glue has dried you can attach the pieces to form a flush joint.
  5. Trim Joinery. After the glue dries completely, trim off any excess wood around the joint.

To be able to turn the pieces inside-out, leave enough room between them.
